By Michael McCune It is official, the U.S. government is at war with its citizens. The war began in Washington with the passage of Senate 1867, the National Defense Authorization Bill, last week. Since we have two on-going wars, this act against American citizens means each of the 97 dishonorable Senators voting for the bill should be publicly hung, drawn and quartered as traitors. I expect to hear the ominous tread of heavy boots and the imperious knock on my door any minute after this is sent in but what else can you expect from a government that adopts Nazi reasoning from the 1930s? Like the Nazis, the Senate has declared its homeland a battlefield. Like the Gestapo, our military can now arrest and detain, without trial or charges, any American citizen…indefinitely. The only question is how this will be accomplished. Will it be through the Nazi’s concentration camps, Russia’s gulag-style insane asylums or our own, globe-girdling military prison system? The U.S. government believes the whole world is its playground, subject to its whims. Damn funny I never remember voting for anyone to be President of the world or to disregard the U.S. Constitution. I had a reader protest against the sinister implications of 1867. She noted, ”Section 1032(b) sppears to specifically prohibit such action against Americans or lawful aliens.” Read closer, friends. It also states further on, “”The legislation would deny suspected terrorists, even American citizens seized within the nation’s borders, the right to trial and subject them to indefinite detention.” This harmless legislation is almost exactly what Goebbels used to initiate the horrendous detention of 17 million Germans. When the thought, “What constitutes a terrorist” arises, the innocence ends. Here are some mundane activities Homeland Security–who defines “terrorist acts” for the rest of the government–defines as terrorist: using binoculars, using a watch, buying gold, owning a gun, having gained permission to carry a concealed weapon, donating to charity, using cash rather than a debit/credit card or check, using the telephone or email to obtain information, and participation in a public or private gathering. About the only thing left out was public loathing of elected officials. If this language isn’t ripe for abuse by government bureaucrats, the ghosts of the Holocaust are meaningless. These 97 Senators have made everyone working for the government my enemy. In the old Twilight Zone show there was an episode “To Serve Mankind“ in which humans were to become the turkey on the platter. The title sounded good but the designs were completely opposite. So it is with this bill. My terrorist act was writing this Rant. Yours, friend, was reading it. We are doomed!
